Vote for the next Loresmyth product!!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 08, 2021 at 08:52:03 PM

Hello, dear Remarkable backers!

As mentioned in our previous update, the time has come that we need to decide what Loresmyth product will be Kickstarted next. With products being in development from 6 to 14 months, always in motion, the future is! We always like to engage with our fans when it comes to this kind of thing because let's face it: You need to love the product as much as we do!

Vote for the next Loresmyth product

We have put together a survey to let you vote for what product idea you like to see as the next Loresmyth Kickstarter.  Before you dive in and take the survey, watch the video below to get more information about each product concept.

When you are ready to cast your vote, go to the Survey Thanks for taking the time.

Hexbound!

Our lovely friends at Hit Point Press have a very cool Kickstarter that is nearing its final days. Hexbound is an awesome-looking 5th edition expansion for players and GMs that is whimsical and gives you exciting tools to add the magic of witchcraft and witches to your games. Check it out and back while you still can!

Thanks to everyone for backing Remarkable Cults, the campaign has had a fantastic first rush! We are looking forward to spending the remaining weeks with you here, and then even more as development kicks into higher gear!

Talk soon,

Video - Personal Thank You and Update!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 07, 2021 at 01:10:01 AM

Hello, dear Remarkable backers!

Now that we've unlocked all stretch goals and have had the most incredible start to our Kickstarter campaign ever, I felt it was time for a personal thank you.

A lot of the questions we've been getting in the comments, Discord, and elsewhere are covered in this personal video by Chris (founder/creative director) and some hints at what's to come! If your question wasn't covered in the video, comment below :-)

Overlord Bundle - More Needed?

We initially set a max of 75 Overlord Bundles, but our stock allows us to crank up this number. Would anyone object to adding more of this pledge level? There seems to be a demand for it so we can increase it if you like that. Let us know!

Overfunding Profits

Some have been asking, so here goes: a little more detailed insight into what happens with our overfunded budgets that do not get invested in the Remarkable Cults book directly. Any overshoot funding that we are left with after the Kickstarter is typically used in the following way:

  • 21% Income Tax: Yes, there's nothing more unavoidable than Death & Taxes. A big chunk of our funds is always reserved to pay taxes at the end of each fiscal year. Sounds super boring, but with increasing success comes higher bills. Any money left in the bank after all our costs, investments, and other expenses is chalked up as actual profits and is therefore taxed as such.
  • Increasing Overhead Costs: With more backers, our costs for storage, transport, shipping and handling, packaging materials, breakage, refunds, and replacement parcels all increase. While there is the benefit of "scale" (eg. getting things cheaper in higher volumes), our past Kickstarters have learnt us to be cautious when it comes to rising costs on very successful campaigns.
  • R&D of new products: In advance of a Kickstarter campaign (so 3-6 months before we "make" money) we are already spending money to hire writers, designers, and artists to develop our new product concepts. This investment is eventually recouped when a project Kickstarts, but not all product ideas end up being made. So we always need a certain amount of capital to enable us to keep making awesome products. In fact, typically 2 out of 5 or 10 ideas make it past the initial concept phase.
  • Cost of Operation: While a Kickstarter campaign deals with the economics of funding the development and manufacturing of a product, it takes money to operate our business. Loresmyth has grown from a hobby into a real operation (now with staff and third-party partners for warehousing, marketing, SEO, and other things) and our monthly cost of operations has grown equally quickly :-) We want to ensure we can keep our business healthy, our staff happy, and stay in the game for the long run. The good thing is we no longer have to "hang on" from Kickstarter to Kickstarter, which a lot of creators are doing.
  • Team bonus: This Kickstarter is the first time we are officially handing out a % bonus to our writers, artists, and other talents who help make this product a reality. This comes out of the overfunding capital, which we gladly use to reward those that are usually "behind-the-scenes" and not applauded so much.

Whew! Hope that gives you some better insight. Ask away in the comments.

That's it for now, more updates after the weekend!

Talk soon,

Chris van der Linden
